Event: Skilled Trades Career Connections (STCC)

Date: Thursday, May 8, 2025

Time: 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM

Location: Dream City, 611 Southgate Ave., Iowa City

We are excited to invite your business or school to participate in Skilled Trades Career Connections (STCC)—an engaging, hands-on career exploration event designed to introduce students to rewarding opportunities in the skilled trades. Our goal is to ensure that students who may not typically be exposed to these career paths can discover a wide range of in-demand, high-paying jobs in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and more.

Each business is encouraged to bring a hands-on activity for students to experience what it’s like to work in their career.

Why Attend STCC?
Interactive, Hands-On Learning: Students can try out skilled trades activities like operating equipment, assembling projects, and interacting directly with industry professionals.
Explore Career Options: Students will learn about career pathways that don’t always require a four-year degree but offer financial stability, career growth, and meaningful work.
Community Collaboration: This event is hosted at Dream City—a community-focused space where students will feel comfortable and inspired as they explore new possibilities.
About Our Partners:

Dream City: A 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to strengthening families, transforming lives, and restoring hope through youth leadership, community development, and wellness programs.

The Greater IC Inc Community Leadership Program (CLP): Since 1990, CLP has cultivated over 700 local leaders who are passionate about strengthening our community through collaboration and informed action.

STCC builds on the success of events like Springfield, MO’s “Build My Future” and Junior Achievement’s “Career Inspire” and aims to connect students to pathways they may have never considered.
